Leading underscores in DNS?

I’m trying to set up a DMARC DNS record. The record should be named:

_dmarc.my.domain

Note the leading underscore. I’ve entered that with the appropriate data in my DNS entries, but it doesn’t seem to be getting propagated. Is a leading underscore in a DNS name allowed?
