"domain is not currently prepared for false failures"

Post by guido331 »

What does this mean?

Received-SPF: softfail (me.com: Sender is not authorized by default to use 'earth13@me.com' in 'mfrom' identity, however domain is not currently prepared for false failures (mechanism '~all' matched)) receiver=mail.rollernet.us; identity=mfrom; envelope-from="earth13@me.com"; helo=elasmtp-junco.atl.sa.earthlink.net; client-ip=209.86.89.63

I saw this in the headers of a spam message that got through filtering. What do I need to adjust to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks!

That's from the SPF module based on the domain's policy. If the domain had indicated -all as the default policy then it would have been rejected, however they are indicating ~all which means "soft failure" which is generally accepted as a default accept. However, you can change the "softfail" action to reject instead of accept if you choose, but this is largely a personal choice, not a technical one.
