SPF Tagging and SPF Filter Updates

Post by RollerNetSupport » Tue Oct 14, 2008 4:36 pm

Effective September 14, 2008, if SPF is enabled for your domain the "Received-SPF" header will always be added with the SPF result. The "Tag" option in our SPF configuration will be removed since over the years the functions of "Accept" and "Tag" have become identical, making "Tag" redundant.

We are also officially depreciating the X-RollerNet-SPF header in favor of the Received-SPF header specified in RFC 4408. At some point in the future, we will stop adding the X-RollerNet-SPF header. We will continue to add both headers in the interim.

Also, to keep our implementation current with RFC 4408 (we added SPF very early in its development) we're renaming two of the result actions to conform with the current convention. The "error" result is now called "TempError" and the "unknown" result is now called "PermError".

Finally, in response to feedback from our customers, we're changing the default action for PermError to "Accept" because it was causing messages from domains with invalid SPF records to defer-until-reject. (Please note that this will not apply to existing configurations.)
