spam trap

Post by wkuypers »

Would it be possible for hosted mail domains, tu have a spam trap mailbox.
All mails that come into the mailbox are on a sender blacklist.

Not easily. We employ a real-time filter that makes accept/deny decisions before the message is written to disk. Most filtering products accept the message and scan the queue file after the fact. While our method is highly effective, it does make a quarantine system exceedingly difficult because we don't actually have the message unless all filters returned "accept".

However, you can use Sieve to move messages to a "Junk" folder based on headers. All of our filters can be reconfigured to permit everything and through Sieve scripts you can have our system move messages around for you. A simple example for SpamAssassin is shown on the help page for Sieve:

https://acc.rollernet.us/help/mail/sieve.php

The drawback to the Sieve method is that it would require reconfiguring all of the filters to accept (some like DNSBL have an explicit "tag" mode) rather than reject and the Sieve script would need to be applied to each hosted mail box. This can be a massive undertaking.

A quarantine storage option for rejected messages is on our development map for the future.
