Dnsbl and spamassissin

Post by wkuypers »

We have been testing dnsbl servers and spamassissin, and finally we had draw back on some dnsbl servers and completely on spamassissin because there were too many errors. the result of is the following :
For dnsbl :
- ability to tag instead of reject simply
- ability to integrate the score in spamassissin calculations

For spamassissin :
- ability to just change the header but not the core of message; it stays inchanged (so when it is a false positive people are not bothered reading the message)
- better whitelisting for spamassissin
- take into account other languages like french and dutch in our case with special rules for those languages (many are available already)

Thanks,

Willem

Thanks for the suggestions. Some are easy (we can implement a header-only option quickly) and others are a little more involved (such as custom rulesets), but we believe they're all practical.

The following features have been added to the SpamAssassin filter:
  • "Spam report mode" allows you to choose how the body is modified or only headers should be added.

"Subject prepending" allows you to enable or disable adding "** SPAM" to the subject line when a message is allowed and is scored as spam.
DNSBL already has a tagging mode. It will add X-RollerNet-DNSBL headers to the message with lookup results from each configured DNSBL. We're in the planning stage for adding scoring options to our DNSBL filter.
