DNS API

Post by studios »

I was wondering if there currently exists or if there are plans for an API for the secondary DNS functions. Specifically, I'd like to

1) Add, edit, delete domains from the DNS service via an API, and

2) Use the API to push a NOTIFY when I update the master.

I just found you guys today and love what I see. I'll be using you soon. Thanks.

Although it seems we've been focusing mostly on the mail services lately, we will be adding a Primary DNS service along with enhancing the current Secondary DNS service. There will be API support for the DNS services.

Is there a rough ETA on this?

The Secondary DNS API is now available.

We'll be adding some additional options to Secondary DNS such as enabling NOTIFY, specifying servers allowed to AXFR from ours, force reloads/refreshes from the master, and displaying the raw zone file.

Hi - do you have an ETA on the additional DNS API features. In particular, we are keen on being able to force reloads.

I can probably have it done this week; we've been working on the mail services side more than DNS lately, so it's due for some attention.

You can preview some of the new features here:

https://acc.rollernet.us/dns/secondary.php

Click on the zone name to view the advanced options. The DNS API will offer the same options as seen here. (This section of the account control center is still under development; not all functions will be available.)

Sending a NOTIFY and forcing reloads happen in the same stage: to send a NOTIFY, enable it and request a retransfer. If the transfer is successful, a NOTIFY will be sent. For the API, this is the "retransfer" action in the "dns" module.
