Domain Direct MX record Priority

Post by jtsmith21 »

Just a heads up. Domain direct will not allow you to specify the same MX priority for two different mail servers.

You might want to give them a buzz and ask them to allow this if you have several customers that use them.

We prefer equal priority MX records because it distributes the load across the mail servers better. It's also pointless to pool waiting mail on one server or the other if one has higher priority, since they're in the same autonomous system. It's advantageous to everyone.

If your DNS provider doesn't allow it (they should, it's perfectly valid, but some just don't get it), then mix up which of the mail servers has lower priority if you have multiple domain names.
