domain disabled for allow all

Post by wkuypers »

Hello,

We have been using a new qmail with some anti-spam patches, and we have some bounces with this message :
552 sorry, your envelope sender domain must exist (#5.7.1) (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
the domain is configured with catchall on the postmaster account.

Can I do something on the rollernet side, or do i have to change the configuration in qmail ?

Thanks and a happy new year from Belgium !

We're already doing basic sender checks at the global level (Postfix reject_unknown_sender_domain and reject_non_fqdn_sender options).

reject_non_fqdn_sender
Reject the request when the MAIL FROM address is not in fully-qualified domain form, as required by the RFC.

reject_unknown_sender_domain
Reject the request when Postfix is not final destination for the sender address, and the MAIL FROM address has no DNS A or MX record, or when it has a malformed MX record such as a record with a zero-length MX hostname (Postfix version 2.3 and later).

(From http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html# ... strictions)

It's possible qmail is doing something above and beyond what Postfix is doing to call it an "unknown domain", or your DNS returned a different answer than our DNS did. If there's a way to have it skip checks when the connection comes from us, use that. There's also some extra options in Client Validity Checks in the account control center that do scans on the envelope sender (MAIL FROM), so you could try some of those as well.
