Relative newbie here, but what is value of the expiry time in your SOA record? Once that elapses, the secondary DNS is supposed to stop answering queries for the domain.

Sure. Just put the appropriate info in your .fetchrc file - poll pop-server.mydomain.com proto pop3 user "superman" with pass "kryptonite" is "mylogin" here poll pop-server.mydomain2.com proto pop3 user "batman" with pass "robinsgay" is "mylogin...
